11 Short Essay




1. The Postman

We are happy to see a postman at our door. He has his own dress. He has a bag with him. He brings us letters. He brings us money orders. Sometimes he brings us parcels, too. The postman works in the Post Office. He is a responsible man. He knows our houses. He knows people. He has to work hard. The hot sun does not stop him. The cold wind is no problem to him. He is really a friend of people.



2. Our School Peon

There is a peon in our school. His name is Nandu. He is about fifty years old. But he is strong and healthy. He wears dhoti and kurta. He is always active. Our teachers are kind to him. Nandu looks busy in the school. He comes to school on time. He opens the office and the classrooms. He cleans them. He rings the bell. He always helps us. We all love him.



3. Our Gardener

Suraj is our gardener. He is a young man. He has interest in gardening. He has good knowledge of it. He does his job well. He plants flowers. He waters them. He takes care of them. He protects the garden from cattle. Nobody enters his garden. Suraj has planted different kinds of flowers in his garden. He sells flowers and gets money. Suraj is a simple man. He is honest and hard-working. We love him.



4. Mrs Indira Gandhi

Mrs. Indira Gandhi was the 1st woman Prime Minister of India.On 19 November 1917 in Allahabad Indira Gandhi was born. Pandit Nehru was her father. Her mother was Kamala Nehru. Mrs. Gandhi was educated in Allahabad, Shantiniketan and Oxford. She was married to Firoze Gandhi in 1942. She was blessed with two sons-Rajiv and Sanjay. In 1966, she became Prime Minister. She was a great leader. She did a lot for our country. But her own security guards killed her on 31 October 1984.



5. The Beggar

There are many beggars in our country. We can see them here and there. The beggar is a poor man. His dress isvtorn and dirty. Sometimes he is half-naked. Some beggars are blind. Some are lame. Many beggars suffer from diseases. There are some lazy people. They do not want to work. So they live on begging. Begging is a social evil. It must stop.



6. Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi is the Father of the Nation. His full name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on 2 October 1869. He was very truthful and honest from his very childhood. He went to England to study law. He went to South Africa also. He led India's freedom movement. India became free. But Nathuram Godse killed him. Gandhiji died on 30th January 1948. He was a lover of peace.



7. The Barber

The barber is a poor man. His dress is simple. He cuts our hair. He has a small box. He has a brush in it. He has rczors and combs. He has a looking-glass. He has an old towel. In the village he goes from house to house for customers. In a town, he sits by the roadside. Some barbers are rich. They have their own hair-cutting saloons. But village barbers are still poor.



8. The Washerman

The washerman washes our dirty clothes. He collects them from our houses. He boils them in hot water with soda. He takes them to a river or pond. He washes them there. He dries them in sun. He brings them home. He irons them. Then he returns them to the owners. The washerman works hard. He is a poor man.



9. The Cow

The cow is an animal. She has four feet. She has two eyes. She has two ears. Her tail is long. The cow eats grass. Some cows are brown. Some are white and black. The cow gives us milk. Her milk is sweet. Cow's milk makes us strong. We make butter and ghee from milk. The cow gives us calves. The cow is a useful animal.



10. The Dog

The dog is a domestic animal. It has two eyes and two ears. It has a nose and a tail. It is a four-footed animal. Its teeth are sharp. The dog is of different colours. It is of different sizes. Some dogs are. small. Some are big. The dog is found in all parts of the world. The dog likes to eat meat. It is a useful animal. It loves its master.



11. The Elephant

The elephant is a large animal. It has a long trunk and two small eyes. It has two big ears and a small tail. The elephant has four thick legs. It is found in India, Burma, China and Africa. The elephant is a wild animal. It is very strong. Sometimes it is tamed. It is trained to carry loads and perform wonderful feats in a circus show.
